About the Portal

Overview

The Gender Statistics Portal is a one stop centre for gender statistics in the National Statistical System (NSS) of Uganda. The Portal is an initiative developed by UBOS, with support from UN Women to promote the dissemination, uptake and use of gender statistics, in line with the National Priority Gender Equality Indicators (NPGEIs).

The NPGEIs are a set of indicators developed to help the Government of Uganda monitor the gender related targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and make available gender statistics for evidence based gender related policy, planning and programming, while ensuring the same are widely accessible by all users.

The NPGEIs are aligned to Uganda's global and regional commitments, as well as the national priorities for gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls. The updated version of the NPGEIs (2018) comprise 140 indicators categorised by the Government of Uganda Sectors, up from 106 in 2016.

The Portal presents up-to-date statistics on the NPGEIs, categorised by the four statistical thematic areas of Demography, Production, Economic and Environment. This information is presented in form of tables, graphs and maps with the accompanying metadata.

The Portal also presents gender statistics related publications, activities, features and gallery, with links to related stakeholder sites.
